Claverham’s long experience of safety
critical design of airframe equipment has been successfully applied
to engine applications. An outstanding example was our support
of Boeing’s X35 B programme. Claverham provided 12 types
of servo actuator, which controlled critical elements of the propulsion
system, including the Pitch and Yaw Valves and the Lift Nozzle
Shut-Off Valve. In collaboration with Hamilton Sundstrand, we
are now focussing our interest in applying EMA (electro-mechanical
actuation) technologies to an increasing range of guide vane and
air control valves for engine and ECS (Environmental Control System)
operation. The integrity of DDV (Direct Drive Valve) technology
also lends itself to control of critical fueldraulic actuators.
