The majority of the technologies described above
can be operated using fuel as the power medium. These “Fueldraulic”
actuation systems have several differences, notably lower operating
pressures when compared to their hydraulic equivalents. As such,
they are generally only used in propulsion systems, very close to
the engine where the elimination of a second flammable fluid outweighs
any technical disadvantages. DDV are especially suited to this type
of application as their robust control approach is more tolerant
of the higher contamination levels found in fuel. |
