Our Aerospace Origins
-
Claverham’s links to the UK aviation industry go back to 1915 and the formation of the Fairey Aviation Company by Sir Richard Fairey. Fairey Aviation Company has a proud history of designing and building famous aircraft include the Swordfish & Barracuda torpedo bombers, the Fulmar. The Fairey Delta, a forerunner to Concorde in 1956 was the first aircraft to exceed 1,000 mph. Their last aircraft was the Rotodyne, an innovative gyroplane intended for commuter use.
-
Fairey Aviation Company diversified over the years and many companies formed the Fairey Group. Fairey Hydraulics, the direct forerunner to Claverham Ltd was part of the Group that eventually comprised some 15 operating companies which included Fairey Engineering, Fairey Marine, Fairey Surveys and Fairey Filtration. The Group was acquired by the National Enterprise Board in 1977 and was acquired by S Pearson & Son in the 80s as part of their manufacturing group.
-
The management team bought Fairey Hydraulics in 1999 and it was then that they changed the company name to Claverham Limited, based as it was, and still is in Claverham village.
-
Early in 2001, Claverham was acquired by Hamilton Sundstrand, a division of United Technologies Corporation, USA.
